SUBJECT: STATUS OF THE TIBURON BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN MASTER PLAN

MEETING DATE: OCTOBER 10, 2001

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY:

On July 18, 2001, the Tiburon Town Council adopted Resolution No. 47-2001 adopting the Tiburon Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The Plan addresses a variety of issues related to bicycle and pedestrian transportation in Tiburon. The Plan includes an inventory of existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities and establishes priorities for future bicycle and pedestrian facilities in Tiburon.

The intention of the adopted Plan is to allow the Town to qualify for State funding for future bicycle and pedestrian improvements. The Plan includes information necessary to comply with the requirements of the State of California Bicycle-Transportation Act for approved bicycle and pedestrian plans. The Plan is currently being reviewed by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the State of California for compliance with these requirements.

The Town Council has also recently appointed additional members to the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC). Once this Plan has been approved by the State, additional efforts will be undertaken by the reconstituted BPAC to elaborate upon, add to or modify the future improvements and actions contained within the Plan. The currently adopted plan should therefore be viewed as an interim plan only, adopted for the immediate purpose of qualifying for certain grants. A copy of the Plan is attached for reference and review by the Planning Commission.
