11/11: Proposed Security Camera Information Sheet
What is the purpose of the cameras?
The cameras would serve two purposes: (1) as a post-crime investigative tool, and (2) as a real-time licenseplate
alert system in the event of a crime in progress, such as an abduction, a crime under investigation by the
Tiburon Police Department, or a similar search for particular plate numbers.
How would the cameras help solve or prevent crime?
The most common property crime occurring in Tiburon is theft, either of vehicles or from vehicles and
residences, although occasionally truly heinous crime, like the 2009 murder of a resident at her home, occurs. Click here to read more...

10/7: Rosenthal Homicide Investigation Update
Tiburon, CA - October 5, 2009. The Rosenthal homicide investigation is continuing and detectives are following up on all potential leads.
A few days after the murder investigators were able to release the home and premises
back to the victim’s family. Since that time the detectives have returned to the home
twice during their continuing investigation and have removed documents and items
belonging to both Mr. and Mrs. Rosenthal.
On Saturday, September 26th, the Marin County Search and Rescue Team assisted
detectives with a search of the open space at the end of Avenida Mira Flores. Using a
specially trained search dog, the team searched for evidence and possible suspect exit
routes. It is important to note that it’s still not known if the suspect left the area on foot or in a vehicle and investigators are thoroughly checking all possibilities.
In the early stage of the investigation the detectives learned that there was a party at a
home adjacent to the victim’s residence the night before Mrs. Rosenthal’s body was
discovered. All the guests at the party have been interviewed by the detectives and
were very cooperative. Unfortunately no leads have been developed from this effort.
In what they are now certain is unrelated to the homicide, the detectives learned that the
Belvedere Police Department and the San Rafael Police Department were investigating
burglary and stolen property cases involving a suspect who lives in the Del Mar
neighborhood. At first the detectives considered the suspect in these cases to be a
person of interest in the homicide case due to the proximity of the suspect’s home to the
victim’s home. A search warrant was served last week and confirmed that the burglary
suspect has an alibi for the time of the homicide and has no connection to the Rosenthal
case. The property crime investigations are on-going and the suspect’s identity cannot
be released at this time.

10/1: Homicide Inquiry Continues
Tiburon, CA - October 1, 2009. As the Rosenthal homicide investigation enters its
second week, detectives are contacting witnesses and exploring a wide range of
inquiry.
There is no readily apparent motive for the crime and a wide range of possible
motives means a wide range of possible suspects. Detectives will be conducting
extensive interviews with family members, friends and associates and are also
scrutinizing the victim’s financial records.
Various items of evidence from the scene have been sent to the California
Department of Justice laboratory for forensic analysis. Results from those tests
may take several weeks.

9/25: Investigation Continues Into Rosenthal Homicide
Tiburon, CA - September 25, 2009. The investigation into the homicide of longtime
resident Joan Rosenthal is continuing and investigators are pursing various leads
as well as processing evidence collected at the scene.
Mrs. Rosenthal was found dead on her front patio Tuesday morning and she
suffered a gunshot wound to the head. It appears that the shot was fired at close
range. Investigators have not narrowed down any one motive and are pursuing a
range of inquiries. It is not known if the victim knew her assailant, but so far
there is no evidence to suggest that Mrs. Rosenthal had been threatened; or was
a party or witness to any type of criminal proceedings. Police are not aware of
any family dispute, or any type of probate or estate issues regarding the death of
her husband Ken Rosenthal in January of this year.
Crime scene investigators have lifted over 100 latent fingerprints from inside the
house. The prints will be classified and entered into the automated fingerprint
identification system which may lead to a match. Persons with legitimate access
to the house will be eliminated from that process.
Investigators have learned that there was a party on Monday evening at the
home across the street from the victim’s house. The guests are not suspected
but detectives would like to hear for any of those party goes about anything they
may have seen or heard. Persons with information are asked to call Marin
County Sheriff’s Investigations at 415.499.7265 or Crime Stoppers at
800.222.8477. This number will accommodate all languages. Callers can
